Black Fret’s Mission:
We empower musicians to create and perform new music by providing grants and professional mentoring to Austin’s internationally-recognized local musicians.
Black Fret is an innovative evolution focused on supporting popular local music. Each year they host more than twenty Listening Sessions and festival-style parties that showcase their grant nominees. Performances are held at local music venues, private residences or other cool Austin locations. As of 2018, 400 Black Fret members have funded over $1 million in grants and performance payments to Austin musicians and the Black Fret Advisory Board, comprised of 38 of Austin’s leading music industry professionals, has provided musicians with advice and mentoring.
Founded in 2013, Black Fret is a 501(c)(3) public charity that provides grants and thousands of hours in professional mentoring to Austin’s internationally recognized local musicians to assist them in creating and performing new music.
